Savor the Success, a social network for women entrepreneurs, is introducing co-op PR services so small businesses can obtain publicity at a fraction of the going rate.
The social network has launched a pilot program, PR Client Services, in Southern California, where the organization has its largest concentration of Savor the Success chapters.
The service--which costs $49 per month--begins with a 20-minute interview to obtain relevant business information from those who enroll. That information goes into a database, and a PR firm hired by Savor the Success reviews hundreds of journalist requests and editorial calendars on a daily basis. When there's a match with a member, the member receives an e-mail about the PR opportunity. The member herself responds directly to the journalist, using tips from Savor the Success' virtual PR agent, Penelope.

"We figured that if we came up with a way to share PR firm intelligence and train our members how to reach out to the press effectively, we'd give our women a chance to compete with the big companies," says Angela Jia Kim, Savor the Success co-founder.
