The company that produces turnkey e-commerce sites is sponsoring a "New Year, New Career" contest. The winner will receive a custom business, valued at $5,000, plus 40 hours of one-on-one consulting. Included is website design, vendor research, a vendor list and pre-loading of up to 500 products. The contest kicked off Tuesday, and entries will be accepted through Jan. 15.

Pure eCommerce will choose five finalists, and the winner will be selected by a public poll. Gault-Varner says she's looking for a viable yet creative business idea that offers both room for growth as well as potential in the current market.

Gault-Varner, who started Pure eCommerce two years ago, says she receives more business at the start of the new year because it's a time of self-reflection. "People often resolve to improve their life for the better and, in the case of would-be entrepreneurs, many decide to finally go after their dream of owning a business." However, in these financial times, Varner-Gault realizes that people might be reluctant to take the risk of going out on their own. She wanted to help, and that's how the "New Year, New Career" contest was born.
